Update as of February 14, 2025, 11:10 AM.

The recent intervention by a federal district court blocking the enforcement of a Trump administration executive order that sought to eliminate access to gender-affirming medical care for transgender individuals under 19 is a reaffirmation of the need to uphold medically necessary, evidence-based care over political ideology.

At Prisma Community Care, we are relieved to lift the suspensions for our patients under 19 whose gender-affirming hormone therapy was halted by this discriminatory executive order. Our healthcare providers have resumed normal operations, ensuring the delivery of evidence-based, patient-centered care. We are in the process of notifying the affected patients to resume their care.

“We are committed to providing comprehensive and compassionate care to all our patients. This court decision allows us to continue supporting our transgender youth,” said Jessyca Leach, CEO of Prisma Community Care.

We continue to monitor the evolving situation, always prioritizing our patients’ needs while adhering to high medical standards and legal compliance.

We will persist in advocating for our 2SLGBTQIA+ community, celebrating this development as a significant step forward in supporting comprehensive gender-affirming care for all ages and fighting for the health and dignity of our community.

Prisma Community Care remains dedicated to advocating for the rights and well-being of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community, ensuring that every individual receives the care and respect they deserve.

Important Update: Changes to Gender-Affirming Hormone Therapy (GAHT) Services for Individuals Under 19 at Prisma Community Care

At Prisma Community Care, we remain deeply committed to providing comprehensive gender-affirming care for all individuals, regardless of age. Despite recent federal policy changes that limit gender-affirming hormone therapy (GAHT) for individuals under the age of 19, we continue to offer essential mental health services, primary care, and social support to those affected.

Due to federal guidelines and regulations linked to grant funding and contracts, we are required to stop providing GAHT to individuals under the age of 19, effective February 2025. By adhering to these guidelines, we ensure that we can continue offering critical services like HIV/STI testing and treatment, HIV care, PrEP, mental health and primary care services for our community without disruption.

What Gender-Affirming Care Covers:

  • Mental Health Services: Counseling and support groups tailored to the needs of transgender and non-binary individuals.
  • Affirming Primary Care: Routine health check-ups, preventive care, and management of chronic conditions.
  • Hormone Therapy: GAHT for individuals aged 19 and older.
  • Surgical Referrals: Assistance with referrals for gender-affirming surgeries.
  • Social Support: Resources and support for navigating social transitions, including name and gender marker changes, and housing assistance.

GAHT remains available as part of comprehensive gender-affirming care for individuals aged 19 and older. At Prisma, we believe in helping our community live healthy, fulfilled lives through holistic care that supports every aspect of well-being. We are here for you every step of the way.

While we face federal restrictions, our commitment to advocating for the rights of 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals is unwavering. Prisma will continue to stand up for healthcare access and fight for the health and dignity of our community.

We continue to advocate for policy changes that support comprehensive gender-affirming care for all ages, ensuring that every individual has access to the care they need and deserve.

You are not alone. Prisma is proud to be a safe, affirming healthcare provider. Together, we’re stronger.
