Free HIV/STI Testing

We offer free HIV and STI/STD testing in a supportive, confidential, and stigma-free environment. Our Prevention Specialists are here to walk you through the testing process, answer your questions, and help you feel comfortable every step of the way.

Free testing with a Prevention Specialist is available by appointment at no cost to the patients. Same-day appointments may be available, depending on availability.

Our testing hours are:

Monday through Thursday: 8 am – 6 pm* and Friday: 8 am – 2 pm* (*HIV/STI testing closes one hour before the end of the day.)

To make an appointment, call our friendly front desk staff at 602.307.5330.

Full Testing Appointments

New to Prisma or have questions about HIV, STIs, PrEP, PEP, or sexual health? A full testing appointment is the best place to start. During this visit, our team can walk you through the testing process, answer questions, provide personalized sexual health education, and connect you with additional Prisma services if needed. Full testing appointments are recommended for new patients, patients who want to talk through their options, or anyone who would benefit from a little more time and support during their visit. Same-day appointments may be available.

Express Testing for Established Patients

Already familiar with Prisma’s Prevention services and need routine testing? Express Testing is a free, 30-minute appointment option for eligible established Prisma patients who want testing-focused care without a longer education-based visit. This option may be a good fit if you only need HIV/STI testing, specimen collection, proof of diagnosis, or follow-up testing after recent STI treatment. Express Testing is available by appointment only.

To schedule an appointment or ask which option is right for you, call 602.307.5330.

What to Expect:

HIV Testing

We make the testing process as easy and accommodating as possible. HIV testing is done through a fingerstick blood draw. Your Rapid HIV test will have results in about 20 minutes. If you test negative, you can talk to your Prevention Specialist about whether PrEP is right for you. If you have a reactive test result, we will support you as you navigate the next steps toward medical treatment and viral suppression (becoming “undetectable”). Learn more about our HIV medical care.

STI/STD Testing

A Prevention Specialist will test you for HIV and/or STIs/STDs at the time of your appointment. Testing appointments do not include treatment services. Those who have positive results will receive support in scheduling an appointment with a Prisma Healthcare provider. Telehealth and same-day appointments may be available. Additionally, please be aware that treatment may come with certain costs depending on your insurance coverage. Navigators help you find assistance programs when needed.

STI testing results usually take 3-5 business days, and testing can be done through a(n):

  • anal swab
  • urine sample
  • blood sample
  • swab of the inside of the mouth
Support, Education, and Prevention Tools

During your visit, your Prevention Specialist may complete a brief sexual health assessment and talk with you about HIV/STI prevention, PrEP, PEP, safer sex practices, and ways to reduce risk in a way that fits your life. A Full Testing Appointment gives you more time to ask questions, talk through your sexual health needs, learn about prevention tools, and receive personalized support from a Prevention Specialist. An Express Testing Appointment is a shorter, testing-focused visit where you can still ask questions and receive support, but the appointment is designed to prioritize testing and the specific need you have at that time. Both appointment types are confidential, stigma-free, and designed to help you feel informed, supported, and connected to care.

Know Your Status. Get Tested.

We recommend getting tested for HIV and STIs/STDs at least once a year. Those with multiple or anonymous partners should be tested more frequently. Free testing with a Prevention Specialist is available at no cost to the patients. This service is made possible through federal grant funding and the generous support of donors who help expand access to affirming, inclusive care in our community.
